MAJOR METEOR STORM THIS WEEKEND The Leonids, a swarm of meteoric remnants from the Temple-Tuttle comet, could provide a stunning night-time show late Saturday and early Sunday, with thousands of "shooting stars" streaking across the heavens. Astronomers said the comet crosses between the sun and Earth about every 33 years, and the result could be especially dramatic this weekend because the earth will be passing through Tempel-Tuttle trails left behind in 1699, 1767 and 1866. . . . If so, even the city-bound might see some meteors despite urban lights, with the maximum at about 2 a.m. (PST) Sunday. . . . Details: www.astrosociety.org .(Thanks, John David Powell)
