ARETHA SUES STAR TABLOID

As if getting anthrax in the mail at its Florida headquarters weren't enough, the Star supermarket tabloid now faces a new threat: a $50 million libel suit filed by singer Aretha Franklin. Her lawyers say a December 2000 article in the Star defamed her by incorrectly alleging she was "drinking herself into (the) grave," and although it's false, the story has "impaired her ability to pursue her chosen profession." . . . Franklin, 59, is best known for her hit song, "Respect."
