  • SONOISES 3/29/05
Description: an experimental web site, proposing new layouts between image and sound (Flash)
Comments: The interactive voyage starts with the inevitable noise of the network and blends it with music (also "part of the sonorous") plus images. Of course, the outcome for each user depends on their unique interaction with the site's autonomic modules and spatial device – the user is encouraged "to trace his/her own trajectory." There's various points from which to start your voyage – Magma, Carnival vs Lent, Deaf, and Rumor. Once you're underway, you might encounter random bridges between the modules ("in the form of accidents"), which keep it all somewhat non-linear. Listen to it murmur and enjoy...  [blueverticalstudio@del.icio.us]

  • heap 3/28/05
Description: a small pile of stuff created by a young man who attended art school and ended up working in advertising and growing a beard
Comments: "If I was a big machine I would help you..." Heap's voice is on the monotone side to say the least. Call me silly, but I downloaded all 7 songs, and something funny happened. Each song is embedded in its own page with a download link, so I loaded all 7 pages in separate browser tabs. I can't begin to describe the experience of hearing all 7 songs playing at the same time. As soon as I recover, I may have to do it again. Actually, it's the small pile of illustrations I really like – humorous creativity...;~))  [nextseason < Neuarmy < Ventilate]

  • VisualRelax - Fotoblog 3/26/05
Description: in search of sensations through images
Comments: "Small moments of daily poetry... in visual form." Iolanda captures colors in more ways than one. Txuma has an eye for detail and abandoned things. Orange appreciates simple things like growing darkness and a tree. All very subjective, honest, and relaxing...  [meddle < Yay Hooray!]

  • I Love You, Baby 3/24/05
Description: "We have all kinds of ideas, some good, some bad."
Comments: The collective of artists gets together weekly "to draw and paint" and seems to be having a real good time at it. The projects are varied, from a work in progress started last winter, Symphony of Rats (which I really like), to another called Gift Drawers, which I'm sure some homeless folks in Houston appreciated. In another project, they've made some one-of-a-kind tees to donate to local thrift shops. That's all just a small part of the content you'll find here. "We are currently doing things that we shouldn't be doing. Things that other people like to do. Things that we really dont feel one way or the other about. We plan to do these things until we decide as a collective whether we like to do these things or we don't like to do these things." In the meantime, fortunately, they're promising "more soon." I love you too, baby...;~))  [Fishbucket]

  • Setor 29 3/23/05
    Description: illustration and animation (Flash)
Comments: From Brazil, a gallery of cool illustrations, sketches, and animations. Odd robotic warriors, horrific fighting machines, space wars – fortunately, balanced out by some cute characters in the animation sector – loved the bunny...;~))

  • Hyperchoreography 3/22/05
Description: dances for the web (Flash)
Comments: Unlike typical dance performance, which has a predefined sequence and only one ending, hyperchoreography is non-linear, "existing in an interactive, networked medium." Instead of finished work being presented on the site, the user is provided with elements, or snippets of dance, and "the shape of the work is decided by the user at the moment of interaction." There's currently 2 works, one of which even allows the user to record and playback their own "journey through the work." It raises an interesting question. "When you see it again does it seem the same?" See for yourself...  [makenosound (Max Wheeler) @del.icio.us]

  • kyle tv 3/20/05
    Description: me, in pictures (Flash)
Comments: "It pushes the idea of the photoblog into more intimate territory," says Kyle, who described the site as "the intimate, yet ambiguous, story of a boy in Atlanta." An exit sign apparently caught Kyle's attention more than the show at the Push Push. A few days before Christmas, he awoke wondering "Am I going to hate myself later for this?" About a week before that, an interesting pic accompanied with info – "With the mirror smashed out, I left a world where ex-boyfriends were discovered to have cheated..." I keep digging backwards into Kyle's story and encounter a broken angel, pondering something else he said – "it's a personal story that is uniquely his, but also uniquely yours..."

  • .:: Shutter at the Thought ::. 3/19/05
Description: A daily photo from the San Juan Islands and the Pacific Northwest
Comments: Today's pick went online just a few months ago and has become quite popular at Photoblogs.org (where I found it). "Life can be calm and yet unclear." Indeed! And Kenny's right when he says "Concrete and paint make an interesting pair." Enjoy his growing collection of daily photos from the beautiful Pacific Northwest...

  • Materialize 3/18/05
    Description: visual works
Comments: The thumbnail to Ryan's fiery cover submission in the new issue at Urban Collective caught my eye – one of my favorite ways to find new cool. His site is simple and straight forward – the only way to navigate is to click-through each image until you get to the end (which is actually the beginning). There's currently 22 works. For best results, maximize your window, open your eyes, click, and enjoy...;~))

  • Designologue 3/17/05
Description: conversations between designers in the medium they understand best - design
Comments: "No winners. No losers. Just good conversation." As in battles and contests, the designers modify or build on each others' images, but a DSNLG isn't a competition at all – it's a conversation, primarily visual (and most tasty) and supplemented by discussion. From the site's large archive of designologues to its Lounge and community members' Profiles, the content, site design, and backend are simply excellent...  [surfstation]

  • 40h.net 3/15/05
Description: photo gallery plus daily shots
Comments: Sometimes, I catch the right moment. That's where I found the link to Erik's extra/daily project ("the title is more of a goal than a promise"). An architecture student in Sweden, Erik's got a lot of "ordinary rockstar friends" who keep "showing up" in the almost-300 daily pics – other tasty photo subjects too. But that's just part of the main site, where you'll also find a number of other (rather amazing) photo series, including more rockstars, of course...

  • TWBexposed 3/14/05
Description: personal website of an amateur but devoted photographer
Comments: Tracy's certainly in a beautiful part of the country – I'll just thank her for carrying her Holga to Rocky Mtn Natl Park. And for having her trusty Digital Rebel with her when she encountered the Year-A-Round Tractor and found herself Contemplating Art. Not to mention the magic she pulls of with her Lubitel. "I love all my cameras," says Tracy. I love how she uses 'em...;~))  [Making Happy]

  • Vectorizarg 3/13/05
    Description: illustration and animation (Flash)
Comments: Tony's portfolio of vector illustrations, animations, and comics is divided. A dark, evil looking character lives on one side while a bright superhero-type character inhabits the other. Odd, I thought, until I discovered the cleverly concealed Bonus and it all became clear – good luck...;~))

  • Dan Holdsworth 3/12/05
Description: gallery of photographic projects (Flash)
Comments: One of Dan's photographic series, at the edge of space, includes an amazing rocket launch shot and six other untitled images, all taken in 1999. I also like the 3 motorway vistas. But it's the 11 shots in the no echo series that simply blew me away...;~))  [lightra.com]

  • This could be awesome... 3/11/05
    Description: some photographs
Comments: Nothing fancy, just some photographs (and an odd wardrobe). The photos are from in and around Brooklyn where Gary lives, to places like Cuba, Montreal, and Tokyo, all apparently taken over the last three years. Really cool street pics – signage, art on walls, even art on cars, and great people pics too. This really could be awesome...;~))  [DiK]

  • Thunder Chunky 3/9/05
Description: design, music and film magazine featuring interviews and reviews from around the globe
Comments: From Liverpool, today's pick is an online magazine full of interesting music reviews, insightful interviews and other goodies revolving around design, music and film . Launched just last May and looking good...;~))  [blueverticalstudio@del.icio.us]

  • Pixeldam 3/6/05
Description: "the largest isometric pixel city"
Comments: If you're a pixel artist, there's plenty of blocks still available in the huge city. I may wanna build a hot dog stand right next to the college in Sandy Bay. And the Downtown area is simply dazzling. This isometric pixel city is a vibrant community of over 140 Citizens doin' the pixel thing and doin' it well...;~))  [zoggles < tee@del.icio.us]

  • box7box 3/5/05
    Description: Flash works
Comments: Though the rest of the site is in Japanese, the two interactive visual works you'll find at today's pick are simply delightful – fun Flash animation...;~))  [elsabeta@del.icio.us]

  • Portfolio Exhibition 3/2/05
Description: "the best of portfolio design"
Comments: An alternative portal providing "a collection of the best portfolios from illustrators, designers, and photographers worldwide," the site's been online for just a few months – already an excellent resource for those who like to explore well-designed websites (including some sites more commercial than what you'll find here). Today's pick. sporting its own spiffy, standards-compliant design, is seeking submissions, wink wink nudge nudge – strictly portfolios, thank you...;~))

  • LivingRooms 3/1/05
    Description: a virtual home (Flash)
Comments: A piece of interactive net.art made in the days of Flash 5 – odd (in a good way). Once you get the navigation, you're on your way to enjoying the various LivingRooms from the mind of Jody Bielun. Have fun...;~))  [Net Art Links]
