Description: a kind of personal diary with daily photos (mainly from Paris, France)
Comments: Damien calls it his "mark in the Internet cyberspace" and though the photoblog was launched this past March, there's a number of other projects with photos dating back to 1996. He lives in Paris, which is the locale for most of what's in the photoblog, but my photo gallery documents Damien's travels to places like Kenya, Malasia, Nepal, Brazil, and the Czech Republic – it also includes a series of photos of hot-air balloons taken in Lorraine, France (I like 'em too). The overall site design is excellent in my opinion – easy to navigate between sections. I also like the choice of thumbnail viewing options in the photoblog. Oh – and I really like this and thiscouleur merveilleuse...

  • armed rob | flix from the past 11/28/04
Description: a graffiti web project (Flash)
Comments: Armed Rob announced at Newstoday that several new sets (of old flix) were just added – photos of some great graffiti in Copenhagen and other cities, many from 1990. Rob's project now has 180 flix from the past and some of the walls may astound you – if you like graffiti art, that is...;~))

  • T2H+ 11/27/04
Description: a showcase of images (Flash)
Comments: Urban Collective has a new issue out – Self Portraitism – a good thing 'cause that's where I found today's pick. UG's splash page, just like the image submitted to UC, is a treat in itself. And like the splash, many of the works in the portfolio are big, colorful digital collages. I love the style – seeing is believing...;~))

  • Citizen Shane 11/26/04
Description: "A strange photo gallery..." (Flash)
Comments: Hope you don't mind having scroll horizontally now and then, but the unique interface is laid out that way – personally, I really like it. Photography is just a starting point for each work. With a click, the viewer can add to the photo. In one case, it's an animation of snowing flowers on a beautiful scene in Paris. In another, a click brings a series of additional images. Or adds words or a zoom of the image. One of the pluses I liked the best changes the photo of a sport park to an interactive panorama (similar to Quicktime VR, but using Flash). Besides the gallery, you might also enjoy day after day, an assortment of creative diversions, a diary kind of thing – "Your greatest creation is the life you lead." Enjoy the strange...  [robocore.]

  • astraightline.com 11/25/04
Description: like a dragonfly in a mason jar, slowly suffocating
Comments: From Brooklyn, NYC, a new weblog with plenty of cool photos, integrated nicely with Flickr. In addition to image entries linked to a selection of higher-resolution versions, a set of 5 random thumbnails of additional photos also appears on the sidebar. Hundred's of photos in all. There's letters and general stuff in the blog and Thom's also integrated his Furl bookmarks into the sidebar. I like the overall look of the site and love the photos – some great macro shots, plus NYC architecture, store windows, and an assortment of shiny things...;~))

  • Joystick 11/24/04
Description: a collective of Colombian artists living in Barcelona
Comments: Today's pick aims "to build channels and comunication spaces." The site documents various events organized by its collective of artists, as well showcasing "the work of young artists presenting online monographic exhibitions of works made with non-web specific media." There's some cool stencils and stickers to view (and download) plus several interesting projects dealing with trash – "encouraging other people to make good use of what we consider useless." I enjoyed it – art with a tinge of activism...;~))

  • frosk.org 11/23/04
Description: personal photos, reflections, and visual projects
Comments: "We are interconnected though dreams, cables, cordless networks and our trail of thought, and for a spilt second we are closer then ever before." Again in yesterday's entry to the Chronicle, several self-portraits of Putle appear. One of the most interesting side projects in Projection is her self-exploration through years with its monthly autoportraits going back to the beginning of 2003 – a mysterious chameleon evolving over time. There's other photography including some great macro work, plus sensitive thoughts and reflections in the Chronicle. You'll encounter evidence that Putle is also a talented illustrator. Explore all 4 sections of this personal creative space – despite that empty Info page, you just might start feeling a little closer to the vibrant spirit within...

  • 73urbanjourneys.com 11/20/04
Description: to explore, experience and capture textual, visual and sensual narratives of the mobile London urban experience
Comments: Katrina, a researcher at the University of Surrey's INCITE program, started the project in 2003. With a MA in Visual Culture, her interests lie in mobility, technology and place and she describes her online project an "ethnographic and observational study of the No.73 bus exploring its route, passengers, history and iconic place in the urban landscape." She's one of many who use public transport to travel into London daily – in addition to blogging her "everyday bus experiences" there's another part of the site where she hopes to collect "73 stories each around 73 words about the 73 bus." The stories are submitted by others who ride that same route and she'll reach her goal soon – only "8 seats left." The main site is full of other information about things related to the 73 Routemaster – all an interesting look at people and public spaces...

  • Coro36Ink.com 11/19/04
Description: "variety is the spice of life"
Comments: An artist who "began his career defacing public property with spray paint" and went on to study traditional illustration is the interesting character behind the big collection of works. From digital art and illustration to oil painting ("which occupies all of his free time, in an obsessive-compulsive kind of way"), Coro's artworks are colorful and intense – I've been back there three times since I found the site yesterday. His showcase features a "broad range of subject matter and varied execution" – and I think it's all good...;~))  [DWT < pac@del.icio.us]

  • Doze Green 11/18/04
    Description: gallery of art (Flash)
Comments: There's works going back to 1998, a cool gallery interface, and best of all, colorful visual content that's simply superb...;~))

  • Left Justified 11/17/04
Description: the personal site of Andrew Krespanis
Comments: "As a web designer, designing your own site can quickly develop into a black hole of second guessing and creeping elegance; it can always be faster, brighter, stronger, light... But you have to stop sometime, or surely you'll go mad." 22-year-old Andrew redesigned 3 times before launching his first "home on the web" back in August. I like the red wood trim style – nice CSS-tabless design. Besides writing on design and other web nerdery, Andrew also maintains a personal link reserve, full of excellent resources and anything but mindless, thank you...;~))  [RES72]

  • peglegpig.com 11/15/04
Description: a digital portfolio - there are many drawings yet to be drawn
Comments: Bugs and other critters. Pigs are big but there's "crocodiles here too." Digitally colored ink drawings plus a collection of watercolors, done "within the past half-a-year" by artist Sari Moo. Colorful and fun! "This is something of personal value." Some keywords (Sari's own) shed additional light – made with love, secrets revealed, real life experiences, seeking truth, art journey, discoveries...kid art. One's "own drawing style" shines here...;~))  [exhaustfan.org]

  • maak 11/14/04
    Description: drawings, sketches, and paintings
Comments: On one hand, we've got some fancy digital tools for creating art these days. But on the other (where I found the site), we got our good ol' simple tools. Like a pencils and pens, or a little paint and some brushes. It's all cool, and Mark's handwritten site style certainly fits the flavor of his tasty visual artworks – I think you'll see what I mean...

  • digitalplayground 11/13/04
Description: vector illustration and character design
Comments: Michael says his digitalplayground also "belongs to many other creatures" he calls his "beloved children." A graphic design student, he's been into vector-character designing for about a year. Some are cuties, some are monsters – and it looks like his squareheads may have had something to do with inspiring the birth of his real life cubeboy a few days ago. Michael's showcase is full of young creativity, developing its own unique style, and as a little bonus, his blog has an interesting review of an event for character designers, which he attended last month in Berlin. Today's pick has plenty of character, thank you – enjoy...

  • Lunch 11/12/04
Description: collecting items, playing with them and binding
Comments: Real inspiration came to me this morning as the radar reached out to something so simple and sweet that it has to be shared. It's a one page site (for now) with photos of personal design projects, light on content but not in substance. Well, there is actually one other page, aboutme, which makes it all the more inspiring:
    Anthony Sheret.
    17 years of age.
    No design education.
    South East England.
The ideas spinning around in my mind at the moment come from Anthony's Unpredictable Book project. What possibilities are wandering around up there! Things, typefaces, images, and textures, bound into a book by hand. I could see myself sewing something like this up. Inspiration, to me anyway – just look what he's done with it...;~))

  • Atmospheric Optics 11/11/04
Description: Light playing on water drops, dust or ice crystals in the atmosphere produces a host of visual spectacles – find out where to see them and learn how they form.
Comments: "Sunlight passing through the large drops of falling rain produces many effects and subtleties." Rainbows are just one 5 categories of atmospheric optics found at today's pick. Another category looks at "light playing on the tiny water droplets of clouds, fogs and mists." The site is full of photos and detailed information on a "host of visual spectacles" presented by nature – fascinating!  [Ordo Magazine]

  • cheese is sliced 11/10/04
Description: a collaborative art project by pthree, boxx and friends
Comments: We already know that boxx is partial to wholewheattoast and it looks like he and pthree must both be kinda fond of sliced cheese. I know. This is all sounding a bit tasty and it is lunchtime about now, but it's really the artwork that has all the flavor – today's pick is a collaboration between these two recent art grads (plus a few guests) and I just love their drawings!

  • will morgan 11/9/04
    Description: people and landscapes
Comments: The quiet design with its dark background works well for Will's artsy photographs. The focus is primarily on people – musicians and some friends, perhaps, and there's some outstanding landscapes as well. Elisa, oxford circus, and dawn stick in my mind this morning – a sweet collection of images...  [Best of British]

  • Ordo Magazine 11/8/04
Description: "DIY projects, recipes, travelogues, random links, exquisite essays, 200-word stories, found objects, animated work (beautiful or wretched), profiles, strange letters, QA's, and multimedia confessionals"
Comments: Though the site's been "on hiatus for a while" for beautiful little reasons, I'm sure more features, creatures, and original art and more interesting elsewheres will come. In the meantime, the archive has plenty of content, from making apple butter to organic farming to "The etymology of erectile dysfunction drug names." Current features include a Shockwave piece and Zach covering an event he recently attended where Bill Murray was the guest of honor. Add 6 family blogs plus some sweet songs on the radio – a nice online mag with a little bit of everything...;~))  [web-laun.ch]

  • XPMNTS 11/7/04
Description: a collection of experimental works (Flash)
Comments: "I've basically just uploaded the files and stuck an indulgent interface on the front..." says the site's creator – "some of it bad and some of it ok." What was once just a folder full of experimental work on What's hard drive is now an online collection of Flash works, static art, and photographs. All pretty effin' cool, in my opinion anyway...  [Newstoday®]

  • Color in Motion 11/5/04
Description: an interactive experience of color communication and color symbolism (Flash)
Comments: Color in Motion was Claudia's MFA Thesis project. It's really quite creative and fun to use – a great way to learn about color. Each of 6 colors stars in its own movie plus there's a lab with 3 interactive projects for the user – "Just have fun and enjoy color!" One of a kind...;~))

  • No Traces 11/4/04
    Description: digital and film images
Comments: "I've been in love with images for as long as I can remember. I'm partial to film..." Bob's got about 20 different cameras and he's posted over 200 photos since April. "I can't begin to explain the feeling you get when you see your own images appear on a contact sheet in the darkroom. It's pure ecstacy for me -- I only wish I would have done this 30 years ago. Now, my wish is to have 30 more years so that maybe someday I'll actually be halfway decent at all of this. God, I love images." It shows...;~))  [FILE]

  • NinjaCruise.com 11/3/04
Description: drawings by Matthew Curry (Flash)
Comments: Matt calls his 5HIVERS.Drawings an "exercise in developing a visual language using color, composition and iconography."  There's currently 40 Heartwerks "pieced together from sketches, paintings, animations and other bits and pieces from the last year or so" – outstanding images! Nice use of Flash too...

  • SUNBURN/a.org 11/2/04
Description: graphic artworks and photography from Austria
Comments: Peter's new layout is a little over a week old. He's says is doesn't "look perfect yet" but decided to put it up anyway "after such a long time of working on it." I like the horizontal scheme of things – a unique design inspired by Autumn. Peter is 16-years-old.
as autumn came and tore us apart. inspired by the beauty of colorful autumn again, I decided to make another photosession in our park. this time a little bit experimental - trying to capture some impressive feelings with delay. but I also found stunning places caused by the low sunrays.
Those words accompany his latest entry to exposure – impressive sets of small photos with interesting thoughts – creative. Some cool stuff in the artworks and battles too. "Have a nice stay..."
