A picture of three tall palms reaching into cloudy blue skies. A decaying shack in the middle of nowhere with more blue skies. "Remove valuables and lock your car," a notice between rooms 212 and 214. Stunning portraits. Extraordinairy photography throughout, but the series of cool shots taken in bathrooms is what I really wanna share...
Mutualism 3/29/07 Description:
a visualization of server activity (Java)
Comments:
David's Java experiment uses aggregated information from a specific server "to create shapes from the connections and fluxes between the users and object of interests, between a public area and the particular extensions to the private areas where the users are placed in the network space." A little abstract, I know, but it is a rather intriguing visualization, based on information captured daily since January, 2005... [Resrc]
Andrew Demirjian 3/27/07 Description:
video and new media art
Comments:
"What effect does mergers and consolidations have on the music that surrounds us?" Andrew illustrates the answer with Power Trio, wherein each of three instruments represent a big music comglomerate. During the period following the approval of a big merger, the stock prices of the three companies controlling 75% of the industry fluctuated and "the incremental increases and decreases in the stock price are reflected in the rise and fall of the musical scale for that instrument." Music to my ears, and there's a lot of other interesting new media and video works to see here too...
ARTifice 3/26/07 Description:
interactive gallery of text and images, representative of the Los Angeles art community (Flash)
Comments:
The editor of the site calls Los Angeles "a very very serious municipal studio for world-class art" and notes the city's environment "parallels and complements the individual artist's interior environment." Both environments can be isolating, though other opportunities for "making meaning" lie out there in the community for the artist alone in his/her studio. Today's pick seems as much about the City of Angels as it is about the artists and art students living there. "They live in a city where it is impossible to forget that they're living in it." A delightful interactive gallery of words and images...
Ricardo Cruz 3/25/07 Description:
photography (Flash)
Comments:
"To me, photography is a state of life, a boundary that marks us and let us mark the moments." Ricardo "started taking some shots" after getting his first digital camera in 2003. I particularly his night shots and portraits, though it's all good (wouldn't want you to miss his beautiful nature shots too)... [DOPE]
fotoopa 3/24/07 Description:
highspeed, macro, and experimental photography
Comments:
The design's a bit drab to me, but there's some content here I can't resist sharing – specifically, Fotoopa's section of highspeed photography. There's some interesting projects, like slicing open a raw egg for example. "I had been thinking about how to conduct this experiment for a long time. I wondered if it would be possible to slice right through the middle of a raw egg, and to see how the contents would react. For days I was busy with the preparations, planning how to carry out the experiment." Looks like it was a great success. And if you like macros, there's some remarkable shots in that section as well...

Eric's post-processing skills are incredible in my opinion. I came across a larger version of this shot at recent pick oneXposure. Wow! Here's another I really like. Inspiring visual works...

"Open the door, fight your fears." I thoroughly enjoyed Sebastian's collection of photos. His illustrations (some animated) are great too. "Life can kill." There's about 6 dozen visual works in total. And "all the walls have colors."

EZINE 3/19/07 Description:
monthly publication of design, culture, and character (Flash)
Comments:
One of the features in the On the Road issue is the collage works of MiraRuido, about whom a major newspaper said, "The visual and sonorous works that appear in MiraRuido are a clear example of the marvels that can arise by putting a monkey in front of a computer." Well, the works are marvelous. Also in this 5th monthly issue, photos, video, and a cassette compilation. Made in Spain and all-out tasty!
Evoke™ 3/18/07 Description:

Comments:
It says it "managed to rise from the ashes and continue on - due to the strength of its core community" after a "small recession" occurred in its second year online. An "elite digital art community" with almost 100 active members, today's pick is currently on Exhibition XI – the archives are full of tasty, themed visual art. "We live to create what is pure and beautiful." Cheers to Justin and the team... [colorbunch.com < etcetera.com.ro < web-inspiration.org]

Daisy Cottage 3/16/07 Description:
A 1922 "dream come true"
Comments:
"Every morning I wake up, sip my first cup of coffee and feel so thankful that we have been given this chance to be 'caretakers' of this sweet 84 year old house." Kim and her family "stumbled upon" the old bungalow they now call the Daisy Cottage in late August of 2005. She started the blog last September to share her enjoyment of "the art of making a house into a home" and other interests, including collecting, scrapbooking, and of course, other old houses. It's a truly personal site, full of enthusiasm for what Kim calls her adventures. Uniquely inspiring (just like the site where I'm thankful to have found it)...

Comments:Unzip your senses with art that goes beyond the visual holding something in store for one who dares to touch the canvas. "Ignore gravity." There's a few humans among Fulvio's odd, primitive creatures – a beautiful collection of imaginative artworks. And the phhootos are a big bonus, including some cool concert pics and other glimpses of Fulvio's life. Fun...

Comments:
"We want to provide a place where people meet themselves and others through images." Founded by "two happy advanced amateur photographers" who hope its name becomes "synonymous with quality," today's pick features works from almost 100 participating members, though not all submitted photos are published. "Behind every shot that gets accepted here there must be thought, meaning and effort." Some excellent photographers and screeners – beware of magic...

visual magazine (.pdf format) with audio/video extras - 'found in Berlin'
Comments:
Today, a big 'thank you' to pdf-mags.com for providing exposure to yet another cool PDF magazine. Their post about the site was most enthusiastic – "Don't let yourself be fooled! Behind the minimalistic website and PDF cover opens up a poetic view to the world." Sights and sounds "found in Berlin" are available in 4 downloadable issues of the 'zine along with other audio/video goodies. Some of its visual content is downright staggering...
IMITATIONEYE 3/8/07 Description:
photoblog by Robert Francis
Comments:
"Some photos are from late 1950's onwards, others could have been taken yesterday." An amazing image of London's British Museum was the result of Robert's digitally combining 5 images. This is eerie! And I just love his night shots...
microtopías 3/7/07 Description:
an experimental multimedia design project (Flash)
Comments:
"We defend the individual emotion against the collective one." It's a personal narrative of sorts, dealing with "the reconstruction of [one's] individual history by means of small details." Through photographs, moving images, and text (Spanish only), the artist uncovers personal experience – "the subjective thing." Interesting experimental Flash and imagery...

collages and stencils on the streets of Lille, France (Flash)
Comments:
It appears that The Dude is actually a company or mixed crew of 3. Based in Lille, a city of over a million people situated in the north of France, the trio cranks out collages and stencils. I just love Collage Gandhi, which adorns a street corner on what appears to be a very old, abandoned storefront. Fantastic street art...

CRAM Magazine 3/4/07 Description:
a pdf magazine devoted to the author who writes intelligent, engaging articles and just wants a place to publish
Comments:
Calling itself a "user-driven publication" devoted more to the written word than to graphic art, this PDF magazine published Issue Three in February. It's got everything from recipes and prose to essays and humor from 7 authors, with some interesting graphics as well... [pdf-mags.com]
enfocado 3/3/07 Description:
pictures, places and trips
Comments:
Today's pick, a fotolog of places traveled, has its nice design touches though the archives seem a bit scrambled chronologically. Not sure if that's intentional but you can find the most recent shot via the thumbnails along the bottom. I first encountered Xose's site in December and a recent featured shotelsewhere reminded me just how much I liked his photos. Is this amazing or what!
Srh-Coolage 3/2/07 Description:
web art... in motion
Comments:
I have questions. Is coolage a new form of collage? And who is this guy Capitan Salento? "Pop art is died." It's all "styled by Underbob." Another question. Who needs answers when it's so much visual fun to click through. SRH? A movement, perhaps...;~))
I'm a Cyborg but that's OK 3/1/07 Description:
'popup book' (Flash)
Comments:
"When love is at stake, it's okay to be a Cyborg!" The site's basically a promotional vehicle for what appears to be a quite intriguing film by Korean director PARK Chan-wook – it's the cool Flash popup book I really like. But I don't plan to spoil the story for you. Enjoy the book and other multimedia goodies... [spyline]
