  • what about the plastic animals? 4/30/06
Description: pictures from Harlem and other places
Comments: "Joe lives in Harlem. He walks around a lot and takes pictures of what he sees. He will be your friend if you feed him ice cream." I've been following Joe's blog for months now – an ongoing source of pleasant surprises in my feed reader. He and his camera have been on the road lately and yesterday's Carhenge post, with photos from a place near Alliance, Kansas, was the perfect reminder to send you his way...  [Ample Sanity and Disarranging Mine]

  • avisualthought.com 4/29/06
Description: photography by Mikey Tnasuttimonkol (Flash)
Comments: Mikey says he's "fo real" in the title bar. A picture of a red-shirted dude on a bike below a big blue wall grabbed me in the action photos while the picture of a tagger proudly standing in front of his fresh work was one of many portraits I looked at more than once. And most of the landscapes/stills simply blew me away, thank you. Fo real fo sure!

  • Regretless Love 4/28/06
Description: Is your love regretless? Tell the world it is! (Flash)
Comments: Does it need to be a "holiday" to tell that special someone you love them? I think not, so even though today's pick was made for Valentine's Day 2006, it's still up and you can choose Your Hearty and share your regretless love for someone with the world. And if cute little animated hearties, each with its unique message of love attached, seems like fun to you, there's literally hundreds of them to browse through...;~))  [StandOut]

  • Life Maton 4/26/06
Description: aiming to collect the largest possible number of photo booth photos - you're the star (Flash)
Comments: The site just launched about a week ago and hopes to eventually become the web's biggest collection of user-submitted photo booth pictures. I'd love to see the Make a face gallerie grow – it's one of 4 categories. And I really like the Flash interface. If you're near one of those old-fashioned, dime store photobooths, go take a few strips and submit 'em. For more info about photobooths (including locations), here's a bonus link for ya...

  • d.u artworks 4/25/06
Description: paintings and drawings by Daniela Uhlig
Comments: When I saw this, I just had to see more of Daniela's artworks. She's mostly into painting but recently, out of necessity, started doing digital works as well. Her gallery of people and other creatures is fantastic in my opinion.

  • Folk Songs for the Five Points 4/24/06
Description: a celebration of cultural diversity and change, using "folk songs" as a metaphor to explore immigration and the formation of identity in New York's Lower East Side (Flash)
Comments: "We are celebrating the unexpected richness that confronts you at every turn," says the project, which describes New York's Lower East Side as "a borderline - a zone of continual flux." Using the soundmap client, explore the diversity of this environment through its many sounds, from a Chinese seafood salesman and an Angolan/Portuguese folk singer to the 2nd Avenue train and steam escaping through a manhole cover. There's points all over the map and the five you choose, along with individual track settings, result in a unique aural experience of life and identity in the city...  [DWT < blog.bsing.net]

  • Couloir 4/23/06
Description: mountain photos - altitude slickness
Comments: Scott, a designer by trade, calls it "an excuse to get out from behind his computer and travel in the mountains." Pearly white snow, sunny blue skies, and skiing – and a camera, thank you...

  • The Human Museum 4/21/06
Description: personal thoughts, photos, and minutiae
Comments: I can't tell you his name but he's a chef in Toronto who's been "working on a book, off and on." He's married to Legs and father to The Boy and says he's restless to the bone. A cool creative mix of words and photos reveal more about the human behind it. Nice-lookin' blog design too...

  • Rusty Lime 4/20/06
Description: intelligent discussion on technology, philosophy, politics, love, life, inspiration, and more
Comments: Despite the fact that this online publication's "powered by a team of bankrupt ex-CEO's who take turns running on a treadmill" in return for stock options, I really like the design (and they're just kidding about not using PHP and MySQL, thank you). Providing articles on a variety of topics from politics to technology to philosophy, plus book, movie, and product reviews, the team's goal is "to inform and hopefully generate intelligent discussion." At the very least, it's sure to generate intelligent thought – interesting content...  [nearly nice.]

  • Berlin guide 4/19/06
Description: photos from Berlin and its most exciting quarters
Comments: Though it's all Berlin you'll find in the photoblog, Grapf doesn't actually live there. A "strong emotional attraction" to the city brings him there periodically where he stays in a hostel and explores by rail and by foot – with his camera, of course. His fascination with Berlin shows in his photos – streetlife, industry, and magic places for starters – superb in my opinion...  [VFXY]

  • Setlist Music Photography 4/18/06
Description: collection of concert photos and setlists plus related resources (Flash)
Comments: Andrew's certainly been plugged in to the local concert scene in Tasmania, documenting his experiences through dozens of photo series and even more setlists. Truly great music photography plus a huge directory of performers' websites and resources related to music in Australia...  [TheNews.com.au]

  • SI! Submititaly.com 4/17/06
Description: a visual blog of web design "made in Italy"
Comments: "MADE IN ITALY" – a design portal in the form of a visual blog focused on Italian style and intended as an encounter place and resource for local designers. View listings by region or month, and there's a feed too, thank you...;~))  [CreativeCream]

  • Lovro Artuković 4/16/06
Description: Art is stored in a Repository located in our common, collective Soul.
Comments: Available in 3 languages, today's pick features the works (and thoughts) of Hungarian painter Lovro Artuković.
