Wag Magazine 4/30/05 Description:
an incubator of ideas (Flash)
Comments:
"View the magazine, it's fresh, nice and it doesn't bite!" I found ISSUE Nº0 visually delightful – what more can I say? I'll share what they say. "Wag is created to be a container, a collector of expressions, fascinations, art (and literary) energies, not yet expressed in a final and refined form, but that are still a ferment, a 'push' forward. Identity under construction, imagery, scanning communication that will come to light tomorrow." Looking forward to the next issue...;~)) [surfstation]

digital photography
Comments:
When he's not inline-skating or zooming around on his motorcycle, Michael likes to take photos. There's hundreds of pics in the galleries and a knowledge section with tips and tutorials. If you prefer, you could start at the photoblog instead. As he's gained experience as a photographer, Michael's "looked more and more for new perspectives... constantly trying new things out" – I like the results – quality plus. The site's texts are in German only, unless of course, you use a good translator, thank you...;~))
Uailab 4/26/05 Description:
inspiration for designers
Comments:
The site recently returned with a temp version and says a new version is in the works. I'm hoping the Hot Sites section will show up and wonder if they're planning to archive the weekly and monthly site selections. In the meantime, the Respect section provides a big list of "great links" and if you're interested in what makes designers, artists, and photographers tick (and seeing samples of their works), you'll definitely enjoy the large archive of interviews...
Cromm Cruac 4/25/05 Description:
design, 3D stills, and cinematics (Flash)
Comments:
There's some tasty downloadable gifts, but you'll have to collect pieces of the logo found in other sections of the site to get to the goodies. If you start in the cinematics section, be careful 'cause you might forget all about the gifts within a few minutes as your mind becomes immersed in one of its six works. So maybe you wanna start in the 3D gallery instead, but after you find and collect the piece, you will also have found that the works span over a 5-year period and before you know it, you're all engaged again – so when you eventually surface again, don't forget you still have 2 other sections to cover if you wanna get into that gifts area. I know – it's starting to sound like a lot of work, but the road to the goodies is tasty all the way and well worth exploring – enjoy...;~))
oil soaked rag 4/24/05 Description:
Jake Scharbach's paintings, drawings, and photos based on living in Brooklyn – urban based landscapes, portraits, and street photography
Comments:
Advertisements "are so numerous and invasive they simply form our physical and mental landscape as reminders of our desires," says Jake who attempts to see them "for what they are: absurd suggestions, perverse demands, the manufacture of need" by capturing them out of context. That's in the n.y. street series, 1 of 2 photo archives. There's original drawings and paintings too, plus an inspiring bio I wouldn't want you to miss...;~))
boncey.org 4/21/05 Description:
programming, photography and stuff
Comments:
I don't know his name but a thumbnail in my aggregator early this morning reminded me why I visit his site rather frequently – not only for the mini-galleries of photos from home in London and other beautiful places, but also for the blog – some interesting content about programming, music, and other things, plus a choice of color schemes to boot...;~))
Boring Person 4/20/05 Description:
writing and photography
Comments:
"My life is pretty boring, so I'm doing my best to make stories up to seem more interesting." The anonymous author also says it's "supposed to be a photography blog" and to tell you the truth, though some of the writing is indeed interesting, it's the small archive of photos I really like, thank you...
object not found 4/19/05 Description:
collection of found postcards, photographs and letters
Comments:
Things lost by their original owners become "ephemera waiting for a new meaning to be given them," says Damien. He's thankful to those "who have helped supply things they found on the street or deep in their draws that they never really knew what to do with, other than not throw it away." And I'm thankful to him for putting it all together in this cool gallery of photos, postcards, and notes – "peek into a however small part of other peoples lives..."
The Show Chicken 4/18/05 Description:
illustrations by Nicholas Sheehy (Flash)
Comments:
Who would ever think chickens could be so much fun! Nick's illustrations may result in your feeling a new fondness for the little critters. But there's more on the menu than just chickens – hey, I'm talking about the navigation menu, of course – some scary, but oh-so-cute monsters. What an imagination he has...;~)) [linkdup]
Edmund Leveckis 4/17/05 Description:
black and white photography
Comments:
Artist at work – dark and shadowy black & white photography, masterfully done, with a few color shots mixed in. Edmund started the journal about six months ago – this shot, one of his earlier posts, and another, taken just last Sunday, inspire me similarly – and the way Edmund captures scenes on the subway and city sidewalks is magical...
Funny Logic 4/15/05 Description:
Consciousness is all in your head.
Comments:
"I'm bored with entertainment. Don't try to console me; I'm entertained by boredom." From a guy pursuing a degree in physics who plans "to roam North America (and possibly the world) as a nomad of the poor variety" after he achieves it comes this lighthearted, atypical blog. "Sometimes, when I wake up, I feel like I've been places I haven't actually been, and done things I haven't actually done. I wonder if this happens to anybody else." He offers up things like a Quick Guide on thinking logically – and amusing thoughts little thought provocations like "What will happen to capitalism when everybody has everything?" and "Whenever you drink a ton of soda, it's fun to know that all of that soda is now inside of you." His name is Ryan, but in some circles (where I discovered his site), he's known as yafujifide – huh? And he's on the lookout for the person responsible for all those "drastic redesigns that occur spontaneously." I find Ryan's webspace totally entertaining, especially when going the random route, but then again, that's just me...;~))
d-i-n-a 4/13/05 Description:
public events about extreme and controversial forms of "radical entertainment"
Comments:
"These projects are just a seductive and often surrealistic reaffirmation of ideas that are already in everybody's minds." A "festival of media action and radical entertainment" was held in Barcelona last week, presented by a group of "artists, activists and researchers." The participanting artists, or Influencers, like to "take it to extremes, blow it up, and, finally, throw it back to the public." As far as the group's online presence goes, there's a wealth of interesting content and links. They "infiltrate the media machine... simply using the 'fun' factor to subvert it" – and kinda busy since 2000... [Joystick]
Sjeiti 4/10/05 Description:
the digital playground of Ron Valstar – sketches, images, java and lingo programming, source code and a lot of links
Comments:
Ron's history goes back to October, 1996, with some 15 site versions since then. "I always have a pocketsized sketchbook and an ordinary black ballpoint ready to write and vizualize ideas." Besides long lists of sketches and digital images done over the years, many quite tasty, thank you, Ron's digital playground also houses a number of Java and Shockwave projects, wallpapers, screensavers, and "a lot of links." And yeah, I like the current version – he's sure come a long way...;~))
No Paper 4/9/05 Description:
an old design project that was reborned this 2oo5 Carnival (Flash)
Comments:
From Sao Paulo, Brasil, a site with a "most pure purpose: to give creative instincts some nice place to be!" Billy and Julio, friends in high school and both now in college, are "hoping someone, somewhere could enjoy [their] work!" I know I sure enjoyed the the tissue issue – cool collage style...;~))
Sohier Christie Photography 4/8/05 Description:
glimpses of Sri Lanka (Flash)
Comments:
"I hope you enjoy reading this adventure as it unfolds." Soyo and Mono were getting ready to leave for Sri Lanka in the middle of January and decided to blog the experiece. They got back home towards the end of February. "Now the long, tedious project begins, the photographs have to get organized, the journal entries have to be written out in legible writing, the memories need to be collected and the trip of a lifetime must be filed away." Today's pick is the site that presents the photos from the trip – it launched about a week ago. There's some real gems. And, as a bonus, here's another similar site, only this one houses some of Sohier's favorite pics taken much closer to home...

"trying to be a better photographer"
Comments:
Michael says he's "trying to be a better photographer." Well. Do you get better than this? Maybe so. Michael's portraits rock, thank you, and what he calls his non-portrait photos are right up there too – like this pic, "taken in the pitch black night in an old graveyard at midnight." And I like a good swamp photo, especially because Michael takes time to explain how he got the effects and includes a link to the original photo. Interesting photo-details plus comments from a number of other pretty good photographers – in a sense, all learning to see...;~))

Meet Anne, who's based in beautiful Seattle (home of the Space Needle and nearby natural wonders), and has an eye for vibrant color and amazing composition. She's been to India, Germany, China, and many points in-between. Her photoblog has been online since last August, and her photos – truly extraordinary...;~))
Count Olaf 4/3/05 Description:
official site of the famous actor (Flash)
Comments:Actor. Humanitarian. Heartthrob. Ultimate Dad. Now, the site comes from a concern (PPC) you could hardly call independent or non-commercial. In fact, after choking on its Terms Of Use, I decided to take a pass on including a screenshot with today's review (not that it wouldn't be fair use, mind you). So, today's pick isn't exactly the type of site typically found in coolstop's listings, but in the interest of providing a little special entertainment for you loyal souls who actually stop by even on Sunday (I love you guys), I just couldn't resist – it's an amusing website. Where else are you gonna find "the most incredibly brilliant blog in the world?" You'll also find some downloadable gifts – icons and wallpapers – but do be careful how you use 'em...;~))
