  • no knock room 10/31/06
Description: an open door to contemporary art (Flash)
Comments: Just launched this month, its "main objective is to support young talented artists" whose works remain "undiscovered from the media and art magazines." Started by 22-year-old Bia Lamarca, an art lover studying Cultural Assets at the University of Salerno, with the help of a team of contributors, the project features the works of dozens of artists along with background information, interviews, and links – a contemporary art portal with "a lot of brilliant works" indeed!

  • blog.bsing.net 10/29/06
    Description: projects and curiosities
Comments: A co-founder of "a group of artists, activists and technologists who are making their own style of beta tests, trial runs and impact assessments based on independent research," Brooke Singer is a digital media artist and Assistant Professor of New Media at a New York college. Her site is not only a blog dealing with emerging technologies, but also a springboard to a number of interesting (and relevant) projects she's been involved with. And on the fun side in one her more distant projects, you're even invited to participate in circulating mundane imagery!"

  • anotherblog 10/28/06
    Description: Athens-based photoblog
Comments: Thanos studied photography in both Athens and London and living in Greece is certainly an advantage – a beautiful place indeed. I really like this shot too. And though I can't read Greek, he's got yet.anotherblog – here's an image from there I found thought-provoking. Enjoy...

  • Subjektiv 10/27/06
Description: photography by Sigrid Kleinecke and Kurt Tutschek
Comments: When I'm out there seeking visual cool, it's kind of nice when the most recent photo is this good – an instant realization I've struck gold. In the case of today's pick, that's just one of many magical shots. Like Mission to Mars and Fabienne for example. Sigrid and Kurt take great photos. Period. Of course, I'll admit that's a highly subjektiv thing to say...;~))  [WeeklyShot]

  • Emily Keegin 10/26/06
    Description: photography
Comments: Pink balloons next to the front door. A series of shots of someone doing handstands in the pool. Studies of soap relics. A day at the beach. Lull (my favorite series). Emily's imaginative photographs are very personal glimpses into the people and places in and around her life. And what at first may seem quite mundane can be most engaging...;~))  [Heavy Backpack]

  • Trace 10/25/06
Description: drawings by Onozawa Yutaka (Flash)
Comments: From Japan, a showcase of stylish drawings done by Onozawa Yutaka a/k/a Trace. And they really look great on the wall...   [memo camera]

  • photo.grapf 10/23/06
    Description: images telling stories
Comments: "He is taking photographs, because he wants to tell stories." Grapf's Berlin guide, featured back in April, continues to be regularly updated with photos reflecting his fascination with Berlin. I guess you could call today's pick his main photoblog with more an assortment of themes and locales, aimed at telling stories. It's been online a bit longer than the other site, but just like the other, its photos are wonderful! "Grapf is trying to give back to the world, what he sees and what he gets - just reflected in images." Thank you.

  • friday café 10/22/06
Description: streetlife, people, BW, shadow and reflection
Comments: Yesterday, it was cityshapes that drew me in, while today, it's cityscapes. Is this a beautiful photo or what? Born in Vietnam, now living in The Netherlands, the guy behind the site has been "shooting since 2002" in beautiful places like Venice and other European cities – some great black & white pics too...

  • simonesbarbati.com 10/21/06
    Description: photography and (web)design
Comments: He's into (web)design. In fact, Simone and his girlfriend are the creators of freshcut, a tasty online magazine reviewed earlier this year. He's also into photography! "After some different experiences I finally found photography as my definitive passion..." I was tickled when Simone contributed to Decay and have been meaning to point you to his great cityshapes (and other things).

  • Adrien Missika 10/18/06
    Description: photo series
Comments: The 3 pictures of what remained After Yesterday made me wonder what took place there. And Safari Classique, one of the other series of photos, made it apparent I just had to share Adrien's work with you...;~))

  • Andreas Halvarsson 10/17/06
    Description: illustrations and photos
Comments: Someone named Madde writes, "Nice pictures and paintings!! I'm a proud owner of one! My daughter is very fortuned that she has a very gifted and creative uncle = wonderful pictures of her." Perhaps Madde's talking about Emma – Andreas did a mixed media painting for her – "Your tiny hands. Your crazy kiss and smile." Besides tasty paintings, collages, and pen and ink drawings, there's also a section of photos – cool creativity...  [swedesres]

  • Mahho Fotoblog 10/14/06
    Description: photos by Martin Johansson
Comments: If I'm correct, Martin's only 18 and though the fotoblog has less than a dozen images so far, that's understandable. He launched the site, or at least this version of it, in late August. And if the small archive is any indication, I'd say this is one worth watching...

  • panoramicity 10/13/06
    Description: panoramic photos
Comments: Why the site? "I hate panoramas, but I love panoramic photos," says Michele whose photos typically have a 22:9 width-to-height ratio – now that's what I call widescreen (and I love it too). There's tasty shots from Japan and various European cities and some of them are what I guess we can call tallscreen where the ratio is about 9:22. Panoramicity...  [BANTER]

  • Jin 10/12/06
Description: illustrations, a personal diary, and other creative projects
Comments: Her drawings are surreal, the words in her diary, amazingly honest and revealing. And you won't want to miss the Misc. stuff. Born in Seoul and now studying and living in NYC, Jinyoung Shin and her art are most unique – what a remarkable creative space!

  • daysPhoto 10/11/06
Description: photos, mostly shot with film, from Kawasaki, Japan
Comments: Recently recognized for its influence on the Photoblogs.org community, today's pick features some outstanding street photos from Japan, mostly shot with film in black & white. Among my favorites – the corridor of time and an amazing pic of a bird in flight...

  • Luna 10/10/06
Description: an international association of photographers dedicated to creating engaged and responsible photographic coverage of contemporary social issues (Flash)
Comments: "It's a beautiful thing, a heart that beats 110 times a minute out of love for others." That's from Grandparents, one of the many reportage series. And in the books, a series about the Orphans of AIDS in South Africa is chilling. "The nation is overwhelmed." An association of seven French photojournalists is behind the site with their lenses pointing to "contemporary social issues." Extraordinary content throughout plus Round Luna, a downloadable PDF (with a most unique interface) featuring more works from the collective...

  • dns digital dia-a-dia 10/9/06
    Description: photo diary
Comments: I like the simple interface to Denis' day-to-day photos – 6 years of snapshots neatly organized in a single page presentation. Much like a diary or journal with words would, the collection of small snapshots provides quick glimpses into his life and interests – his children, music, the outdoors, street scenes – very much a visual diary with some really cool shots. And there's a lot more here...

  • meetmetwice 10/7/06
    Description: illustration by ekaterina erschowa
Comments: The illustration portfolio of Ekaterina Erschowa who's currently studying communications design in Augsburg – extraordinarily creative work from a young talent...

  • clairobscur 10/6/06
Description: photos from Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, and other places...
Comments: There's photos taken in the American Southwest as well as New York and places closer to home, like New Zealand and Tahiti. I found the urban gallery most exciting – wigwams, fine wine, and other colorful things...  [VFXY]

  • Breathing Earth 10/5/06
Description: visual, real-time simulation of the carbon dioxide emission rates, birth rates, and death rates of every country in the world (Flash)
Comments: 190 people born. 69 people died. 29000 tons of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. Worldwide in just one minute. Noting it's "only a simulation" but based on real data, today's pick presents figures in real-time for all countries in the world (a few 'tinier' nations lack data and have to be estimated). Impressive Flash presentation, though a bit wider than many (if not most) users' screen resolutions.

  • the doors 10/4/06
Description: weblog dedicated to photos of doors
Comments: Not to be confused with the band with the same name, today's pick, the doors, is a collaborative project featuring a collection of over 600 photos of (you guessed it) doors. Though that may seem a bit mundane to you at first, think about it. There's doors everywhere – metal doors, decayed doors, modern doors – and some of them are rather interesting and sometimes, even intriguing. And if you get tired of the doors, you could always check out another of founder Vasili's projects, bildercanon – plenty of cool photos there too...;~))

  • Photo45 10/2/06
    Description: faces and places (Flash)
Comments: "I love to see the shot, and, when the stars align, to get it, too." The faces include people on rollercoasters and strangers on trains. And among the places captured are Argentina and Japan. David Shulman's passion for photography definitely shines through the images...

  • milchkleid 10/1/06
    Description: illustration (Flash)
Comments: "I stand alone but so connected." The artist in her twenties possesses curious creativity. Her showcase of unique black & white line drawings is full of magnificent characters and odd critters...;~))
