  • firetricks 11/30/06
    Description: 'vegetal invocation' (Flash)
Comments: Axel calls it vegetal and if you explore, you'll find your way to each of its various organic artworks. Superb illustrations with hypnotic motion and sound – I love it! There's also several sidetracks from the main page to other astonishing firetricks...

  • Peeta 11/29/06
    Description: graffiti writer
Comments: He's a graffiti artist who also happens to be studying industrial design in Venice. The site showcases his writings on walls and canvases as well as unique graffiti-style sculptures. You've just got to see his murals – wow!  [ Ample Sanity]

  • elsewhere* 11/28/06
Description: sequences of images from around the world (Flash)
Comments: Yangon, a city in Myanmar (formerly Burma) of about 5 million people. Guido was there in March of last year and his time-lapse photosequence of a downtown scene is phenomenal. It's one of many locales featured in Guido's visual log of travels. He's on a China journey this year, with his latest entries coming in this month from Tibet. Beautiful site design too, timeline included...  [Design(Radar]

  • Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir 11/27/06
    Description: visual artist and photographer
Comments: Self-taught Rebekka "decided to become a photographer in May of 2005." A true visual artist (in my opinion) – I find her section of self-portraits too inspiring for words. And the other sections (people, scenery, flora, fauna, and water) are each every bit as moving.  "There is nothing i would rather do," she says. I believe it!

  • Unremitting Failure 11/26/06
Description: pointless expostulations on the utter futility of everything
Comments: "Our life has been a crabwise series of lateral movements from failure to futility, punctuated by the occasional disaster." Where else can you find a post wherein the author hands out a (well-deserved) "I'm not going to let my own stupidity stand in the way of my god-given right to be an idiot!" award? And though recently a victim of incipient nutballism, he keeps dishing out the sardonic humor that keeps me coming back. Funny and intelligent at the same time – failure is surely underrated...;~))

  • ultra grafismo 11/25/06
Description: personal works of illustrator/graphic designer Maikon Nery
Comments: The site design's a bit old school and doesn't look right in Firefox, but this one's for the graphic design and illustration skills. Maikon's collages and other personal works are delightful!  [4efx]

  • [ MeTokyo ] 11/24/06
    Description: photoblog of Aleksander Obinski
Comments: Much of Aleksander's photography is done in black & white, shot in the low light of night. Anwhere from 1/3 of a second to 19 seconds – magical blurs – heavy shadows – sometimes gritty. Special... [VFXY]

  • Catherine Denvir 11/23/06
Description: a personal catalog of illustrations (Flash)
Comments: Human-like critters and sometimes, quite the opposite, are the subjects of Catherine Denvir's unique illustrations. Studies in facial features and the human form – somewhat surreal, colorful creativity...

  • graph drome 11/22/06
Description: graphic design and illustration (some mature content)
Comments: Besides illustrations done for a number of magazines and posters, A.J. also showcases samples of type design (check out "hyper type" – amazing), plus 7 of his own graphic design "zines." As my link source said, "strap yourself in" and enjoy!

  • A Daily Photoessay 11/21/06
Description: photographs, particularly of the daily grind
Comments: Hoping to "see something extraordinary in the ordinary," George says he "must make photographs, particularly of the daily grind..." This is certainly no ordinary moment. Nor is a beautiful sky at any given point in time. Kilroy was here. "There are no ordinary moments." Exactly...  [WeeklyShot]

  • The Yok 11/20/06
Description: works of a street artist
Comments: Yok's signature is a distinctive mustachioed character and he paints mostly on walls but sometimes on canvas. Tasty stickers and posters too, adorning the streets of Melbourne...  [weAREtheIMAGEmakers]

  • Steven Brahms 11/19/06
    Description: photography (Flash)
Comments: "Society places people with disabilities into the margins of our culture" and somewhere between the authoritarian vs. benevolent approaches to treating these individuals comes a greater understanding. As the photos in Lion on the Wall show, these individuals are really quite normal. That's just one of Steven's series of thoughtful photographs – a "realistic and intimate glimpse at the everyday lives of people."

  • HOME is where my HEART is 11/18/06
    Description: photographs by Nicole Kengyel
Comments: Be prepared to use your browser's [back] button and horizontal scrollbar – but get ready to explore a uniquely organized collection of superb photographs from the heart...

  • Afflatus Project 11/16/06
    Description: art for mobile devices
Comments: "We hope to explore art, design, interactivity, ergonomics, technology and experimentation with mobile devices and the audience." From an Interactive Artwall displaying the creative behaviour of multiple mobile phone users, to network performance via video podcast – about 20 interesting works featured in the exhibition...  [TheNews.com.au]

  • you are 11/15/06
Description: documenting and cataloging global diversity (Flash)
Comments: Since adding it to the notables back in April, the site's grown, recently adding 60 new photos from Afghanistan. There's over 1000 categorized images from all over the world documenting diversity. "This project aims to become an earth-wide map of the relationships between the infinite diversity of things and places." And people of course – a most interesting visual documentary...

  • snap•it•up 11/14/06
Description: Hamburg-based photoblog of Michael H. Heng
Comments: Michael's been shooting with film for many years and after being away from photography for a while, got back into it a few years ago, creating the photoblog. He now shoots with a digital SLR camera and his collection is full of astonishingly colorful snaps – some beautiful compositions...

  • the Identity Archives Project 11/13/06
Description: keyword-searchable database of logos and brand identity designs from around the world
Comments: "By and for logo designers." Hoping to be the premier site of its kind and just launched in August, today's pick is already looking like an excellent resource. Its main contributors are "graphic designers and brand identity specialists" and it's different from other logo databases in that it promotes "extensive keyword data with each design submission" in its rather detailed guidelines. Looking good. The creator of IdAP, Gabe Ruane, also happens to be a co-founder of Phase Magazine, reviewed earlier this year...

  • Zehnuhr 11/12/06
Description: works by artist Sebastian Waters
Comments: "Enjoy your flight, I've broken your wings." Besides photography, 21-year-old Sebastian's main interest is "doing collages in gluebooks." There's excerpts from three of his Gluebooks plus sample photos showcased on the the site, along with links to the full collections (hosted elsewhere) – unusual visual art from a young talent...

  • Resgraphica Magazine 11/11/06
    Description: fullscreen PDF magazine
Comments: Issue 1 is shaping the mood with a tasty downloadable pdf magazine. Open it locally to get the fullscreen effect. Inviting "graphic designers from all over the world to participate" and off to a colorful start!  [iBLOG]

  • watchThisspace 11/10/06
Description: an experiment of sorts, with images from Hamilton, Ontario and occasional photos from elsewhere
Comments: Coke and Iron, which I originally saw yesterday at WeeklyShot, is a most inspiring photograph – industrial is anything but boring (to me, anyway). There's plenty of evidence that Steve, a metallurgist by day, certainly has an "eye for what makes a good image."

  • Design Licks 11/9/06
Description: 'the greatest websites on earth' (Flash)
Comments: It's been a daily thing since the middle of July and I really like its recent redesign. A "showcase of some of the greatest web designs around the world" with a site of the day plus other featured sites, today's pick shows a month's worth of screenshots at a time. If professional portfolios and well-designed corporate minisites are your thing, you'll like the assortment. And "if you think your site is good enough to be featured," look for the submission form. "There is no money to earn... only recognition." Tasty licks...;~))

  • tower 8 11/8/06
Description: an expanding narrative told through animation, music, comics and art (Flash)
Comments: "In the future the oceans recede leaving the world with too many inhabitants and too little water. Adding to the chaos is the appearance of new powers among the people: creativity has become a physical force." The "expanding narrative" includes 2 songs so far – The Faceoff is a great music video download, thank you...  [Motionographer and Pixelsurgeon]

  • altere9o 11/7/06
Description: a showcase of art and design projects (Flash)
Comments: Arachne, a movie done while studying broadcast design – a cool combo of images and typography telling a story from Greek mythology:
    once as poets tell
a goddess at her art defied
    the daring mortal fell
the hapless victim of her pride
I also liked another animation, anti-war. In total, there's about a dozen art and design works in Christy Kim's showcase, including my favorite, a winning image called boxes...;~))

  • Yay! Monday! 11/6/06
Description: help make Monday's better with your creativity
Comments: It promises to "make a monday feel like a funday" and that uploaded works will "be seen by thousands and/or millions." Well, I'm not sure about the millions part, I am sure that the latest monday showcase is up with a variety of new submissions. Created by a 19-year-old who calls himself The Hawaiian Heart Throb, here's a bit of visual inspiration to start the long week...;~))

  • Places & Faces 11/5/06
    Description: photography by Klara Cservenka
Comments: "Tokyo felt vast, sometimes overpowering, sometimes empowering, often disorienting." Klara's captures with a Brownie in that "alluring, uneasy wonderland" are as cool as cool gets. At least, I think they are, and her Portraits are too!

  • Staring at the Sun 11/4/06
Description: a photoblog by Dirk Jesse
Comments: "Because photographs are meant to be shown." Among Dirk's 20 Favourites, I found something a notch above (in my mind, anyway). And a boat – wow!

  • bytesphere.net 11/3/06
Description: works and drawings by a student of graphic design (Flash)
Comments: Philipp, currently studying graphic design in Trier, Germany, started the site to enhance his Flash skills and the result is a pretty slick interface. The site's evolved into a personal portfolio of drawings and other works. And I just can't believe the big music network isn't broadcasting his cool animated artbreak submission (see the news) – it really is good in my opinion...;~))  [Roxlu]

  • pasquín o panfleto 11/2/06
Description: illustrations and other visual works
Comments: In addition to the illustrations, reflections, and graphic designs (like these cool icons) found in Oskitar's popblog, I like the horizontal layout – a little different kind of design that works well with the mouse wheel...;~))  [The Horizontal Way]

  • Kim Chong Min 11/1/06
Description: daily life photography and other web creations (Flash)
Comments: The site opens with Kim Chong Min's collection of photographs, which he calls "a fraction of daily affairs that filled up a four-cornered frame." A visual diary going back to 2003 with an astounding Flash interface. There's some interesting photo-clues as to how CM apparently worked offline to visualize and help build it. Though a bit CPU/memory-intensive, it's got to be one of the coolest means of presenting photos I've seen online...;~))
