White Pepper 7/30/07 Description:
a gallery of photographs
Comments:
David calls the site White Pepper – "A good strong solid addition to anything without the pretentious self-satisfied smugness of black pepper with its fancy prancy prettiness and unnecessarily oversized grinder." He also says "it's good for you." And after browsing his small collection of photographs, I've got to add that white pepper is quite tasty too...;~))
Galia Offri 7/29/07 Description:
works of an Israeli visual artist living and working in New York (Flash)
Comments:
"I embrace the big risk of sinking inside subjectivity," says visual artist Galia Offri. "When I paint, I stand in the morass, partially numb, I look out and try to describe." Created from within a "memory swamp" of "sensations, feelings and myths," much of her art deals with being a woman and the "struggle of growth in the transition from childhood to adulthood." A joy to experience... [Ample Sanity]
Virgílio Vasconcelos 7/28/07 Description:
character animation works
Comments:
"I'm truly passionate for animation. Although I'm on my early stages, I've decided to bring to other people the same happiness I feel every time I watch the animations produced by the ones who are now my inspiration." A character animator who works by day as a web designer/developer, Virgílio presents a cool collection of his works in several downloadable formats (see license info). – I love what he's done with Michigan J. Frog (a character originally created by his greatest inspiration, the late animator and director Chuck Jones). Be happy... [Brasil Inspired]
Schwarz & Weiß 7/27/07 Description:
'more than just pictures'
Comments:
The photoblog's title translates to black & white but its tagline adds clarity to what you'll actually find there – and everything that lies between them – there's certainly some beautifully colorful shots (here's another). "I believe that good snapshots don't depend on the camera, but on the photographer himself and how he sees it," says the guy behind the site. And though he says he's "still trying to get it," I like what he sees... [VFXY dailymosaic]
Mark Jenkins 7/26/07 Description:
tape sculpture and street installations
Comments:
If you should encounter a little baby riding a pink flamingo or climbing out of an overturned road barrel, chances are that Mark Jenkins has been in the neighborhood. Or perhaps, you're trying to figure out how to feed money to the parking meter after it's been encased in what appears to be a big lollipop. The artist goes through more rolls of clear packing tape than your local shipping store and even teaches others the fine art of tape casting. And you just might find you have a piece of his art in your pocket...;~))
5klatek (5exposures) 7/25/07 Description:
PDF magazine featuring documentary photography from Poland
Comments:
"We want this magazine to be a response to lack of publishers in our country which would show achievements in the field of news and documentary photography." That said in the introduction to its first issue last year, 5exposures recently released its 4th issue – an extraordinary PDF magazine from Poland. Background information is available on the site in both Polish and English and though the zines' text is primarily in Polish, the photographs you'll find certainly speak for themselves, quite loudly, thank you... Dis-Connection 7/24/07 Description:
game related humor based webcomic by Freek Zijlmans
Comments:
I've got to warn you that one of FrZi's recent installments, Oh... My... G-G-God is a bit gory but thankfully, in a comical way. Otherwise known as Freek Zijlman, the cartoonist said in his news column that the image "wasn't even meant to be released" but now that it's out there showing the sad demise of the two main characters, Yves and Gregg, we have to wonder as to the fate of Dis-Connection | The Webcomic. For now, there's over 50 strips with some really funny stuff...
standard lipsum. 7/23/07 Description:
design and music-related blog of Chase Turberville
Comments:
One day this week, "depending on how lazy" Chase might be, we should see the results of the weekend's little found typography project. He's a graphic designer (though the work section's not online yet) and admits to sometimes getting "caught up in the bright lights of commercialized America" – what he found should be interesting. Music (and video) is a big part of his blog too – I'm still laughing about this little gem...;~))

Tittin Rinde's log of drawings, paintings, images and whatever comes to mind
Comments:
"The human face intrigues me and so does the portrait - it's a life long passion." From simple drawings to more elaborate paintings, Tittin's sense of intrigue with stories behind human faces shines through the works. And the "need to clarify certain aspects of [her] perception" shows when she talks about her selfportraits. Besides being a place to log her creative works, Tittin's blog represents a bit of a change in attitude – "from the neutral 'presenting' to the far more personal 'sharing'." And what she shares about art in general via words and links is every bit as interesting as her own art – "in order to go forward, I also have to go backward..."
Chew Toy 7/20/07 Description:
glimpses of a cat's toy (Flash)
Comments:
Perhaps you'll find this as amusing as I do. It seems David bought his cat a toy. "I tied it to a string amy cat would run around the house attacking it as I pulled it along." But something strange happened one day – the chew toy spoke to him. The rest is history in the form of 18 colorful images (so far, that is)...
memento morrra 7/19/07 Description:

Comments:
After bumping into Morrra's photoblog and seeing her amazing shots of walls, among other things, I felt really lucky to have discovered her drawings and other art as well. From Moscow, the talented and inspiring Maria Rusakova...
Gabriele Stabile 7/18/07 Description:
stories by photojournalist Gabriele Stabile
Comments:
An "Italian fella in NY city" working as a photojournalist, Gabriele Stabile shares several stories on his site. From the inhabitants of the refugee motel to the various visions of decay in ghosts, this is great photography (in my opinion, of course)... [Design(Radar]
100 drawings 7/17/07 Description:
drawing by Tyler Landry
Comments:
Step right up! "See the feverishly rendered delusions of a social malcontent in glorious 2D right here on your computer screen!" The presentation's a bit rough unless you close the pop-up after viewing each image, but the visual content is exceptional, so do "experience the madness of one hundred drawings by Tyler Landry..." Picturing the World 7/16/07 Description:
a personal journey through the world
Comments:
"You think that everything is set in stone, that you know how everything works. But then something happens. You see something you didn't expect to see, or otherwise experience things that puts life in a new light." A wandering young who still has about a year to go before finishing his education, Linus sees his photoblog as a journey and a means of rediscovering the world. He started this "second iteration" just a few months ago and what I like in addition to his uniquely creative photos are some of the personal thoughts he shares. "Time is fleeting. I suppose it is what you do right now that matters." Amen... [VFXY]
Seven Roads 7/14/07 Description:
'Gallery of Book Trade Labels' and other projects
Comments:
"We must admit to having gone from 'coming across' the labels in our book-browsing to actually searching for them." Greg Kindall's "diverse set of interests" obviously includes old books and he's managed to accumulate quite a "virtual collection" of digitally scanned book trade labels, some of which go back to the mid-1800s. These "small and sometimes beautiful" labels found in the endpapers of old books are marvelous little artifacts for type lovers and book lovers alike. There's other interesting projects at Seven Roads, but the old labels are something else! [DesignNotes]
Fusion.lv 7/13/07 Description:
an expression of philosophical conflict (Flash)
Comments:
"Are you finding what you were looking for... out here with me? I hope so," says Alexander, who probably knows that for some viewers, it'll take a few moments to realize how to get to the goods. Currently featured is fusion2, a "few odds and ends that came in pink" – some amazing art and motion work, especially black blue. "And in the end it's only round and round..." Superb.

photography, art, and design by Jared Chappin (Flash)
Comments:
I like the simplicity of Jared's showcase – a smooth, quiet interface. The photography section has 20 small photos and they're most impressive despite their size – some wonderful color and detail. Cool graphics too...

"I am a sucker for abstracts, patterns, lines and repetition." His eye for color and form is extraordinary but what he sees in people is indeed special. Eyespeak. Listen...
sandra hansson 7/8/07 Description:
photography
Comments:
Though she's posted hundreds of photos elsewhere, her own site features about 3 dozen shots in 4 categories – me, you, world, and fetisch (or should that be footish). Perhaps this smaller collection (or portfolio) is simply a selection of her favorite photographic works – in my opinion, it's really good! [Pixelsurgeon]
due3 7/7/07 Description:
graphic, motion graphic, and sound design from Instanbul (Flash)
Comments:I don't feel good, a little piece of noise music designed by Nom, actually made me feel real good. A breeze was coming out of my woofer as I listened to it. Several new 3D graphic designs showed up recently in Nom's due3Lab and he notes there's a really psycho video in the works. From Instanbul, a design showcase worth watching – and you might want to check out Nom's blog to see what he's watching... [Design Licks]
kink&smak 7/6/07 Description:
we create things...
Comments:
"If it weren't for the lack of hygiene and tendency to get distracted by shiny objects, we would most possibly be sipping the finest apple juice, and eating the finest anything." Welcome to the odd visual world of "two kids from a rainless place" where pigs will fly and flutterbies abound. Cool graphical style and collage goodness, plus the older flashtastic gallery of larger works. Some tasty wallpapers too... [Pixelsurgeon]
iN-PUBLiC 7/5/07 Description:
'the home of street photography'
Comments:
"All the photographers featured here have been invited to show their work because they have the ability to see the unusual in the everyday and to capture the moment. The pictures remind us that, if we let it, over-familiarity can make us blind to what's really going on in the world around us." 17 contemporary Street Photographers are currently featured. "Street Photographers often report a loss of 'self' when carefully watching the behavior of others, such is their emotional involvement." Uncovering the crazy and dreamlike in the everyday – "think about the shot too hard, it is gone." iN-PUBLiC... [reminded by Jonn Leffmann Photography (7/4/07)]

Comments:
"You have a unique view of the world," says a recent visitor to the site. Another says "the abstracts are beautiful." Jonn Leffmann's main focus is on documentary and street photography and you're in for a treat if you're into such things. And his passion for abstract forms shines through as well... [Body Collector]

sketches and recollection from surfing's back roads
Comments:
"The whole idea of the new design is to keep it simple, make it easier to update, and give it a classic, lasting feel, like a book." Yep. The design is pretty cool in my opinion, right down to the nifty alphabetical index. And the content? You don't have to be a surfing enthusiast like Ray and some of the other content contributers to enjoy the images and stories from "surfing's back roads" – from Portugal to Australia and points in-between. "Sometimes nature just has other plans" – hopefully at least, the beer wasn't flat too...;~)) [asiteaday.org]
Gregory Schaffer 7/2/07 Description:
photographs by a tall, spectacle-wearing gentleman of indeterminate ethnic heritage, currently working as a Peace Corps volunteer in Western China
Comments:
"When not teaching at the local vocational college, he goes on long walks to see if there's something surprising to be found on the roads and trails surrounding his school." And you can bet Mr. Schaffer has his camera(s) with him. Soon to return to the US after having been a Peace Corps volunteer in China for the last few years, he's got several photography degrees under his belt. He shoots with film and if I might quote my source, there's "many stunning photographs" here. I particularly likelove his Car Wash collection...
